Turks and Caicos Estate Transformed into a Luxury Entertainment Hub

Nathan Turner, a celebrated designer, undertook a significant renovation and expansion of a client's residence in Turks and Caicos, driven by the clients' frequent entertaining lifestyle. The homeowners, now empty-nesters, regularly host their children, friends, and extended family, necessitating a home designed to accommodate numerous guests comfortably and elegantly.

The extensive project, guided by local firm Coast Architects, involved a complete overhaul of the existing tropical modern structure and the addition of a new wing, tripling the original footprint to nine bedrooms. Turner approached this transformation with a 'boutique hotel' philosophy, ensuring each bedroom functions as a private suite with ample amenities, including a spacious bathroom, seating area, minibar, and outdoor lounge. This design thoughtfully balances areas for lively social interactions with serene private spaces, recognizing that personal retreat enhances collective experiences. The primary suite, a sprawling 1,129-square-foot sanctuary, exemplifies this balance with its own seating area, kitchenette, laundry facilities, and a private sundeck, offering owners a peaceful escape even when the house is full.Beyond the interiors, the estate's outdoor areas have been meticulously designed to maximize enjoyment of the waterfront setting. Twin swimming pools, a generous hot tub, a secluded conversation pit, a bocce court, and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen and bar create a resort-like atmosphere. Landscape designer Jen McGowan's lush patios and gardens seamlessly connect the house to the private beach. Architect Chris Davies emphasized integrating indoor and outdoor living through extensive use of glass and sliding walls. Turner's interior design avoids traditional Caribbean clichés, opting for clean lines and a palette of tactile natural materials like honey-toned white-oak, honed marble, and fossil-flecked coral stone. The design incorporates deep blues, reflecting the ocean and sky, making the natural surroundings an integral part of the home's aesthetic. Unique elements like a mural by artist Abel Macias, depicting local marine life, add a vibrant, site-specific artistic touch, transforming a transitional staircase into a captivating focal point. This thoughtful renovation exemplifies how a well-designed space can elevate the quality of life, fostering both vibrant social connections and peaceful personal moments. It underscores the belief that a home should not only be a place of comfort and beauty but also a flexible environment that adapts to the diverse needs and desires of its occupants, enriching every experience within its walls and beyond.
