Prostoria Reinterprets Richter's Modernist Designs

Prostoria, a Croatian design company, has launched an ambitious cultural project focused on the architectural archives of Vjenceslav Richter. This initiative, dubbed 'Revisiting Richter,' aims to reinterpret and bring to life the unproduced furniture concepts of the esteemed modernist architect. The collection is set to be unveiled at prestigious events such as Salone del Mobile 2026 and NeoCon in Chicago, marking a significant moment for the brand and the legacy of Croatian modernism. Rather than merely replicating historical pieces, Prostoria engages in a dynamic reinterpretation, adapting Richter's visionary designs for modern living spaces.

Vjenceslav Richter (1917-2002) was a pivotal figure in European modernism, though his contributions have often been understated. His career spanned architecture, art, and theory, deeply influencing Croatia's modernist identity through public pavilions and urban planning. Despite his international acclaim, many of his furniture designs remained conceptual. The 'Revisiting Richter' collection, comprising 20 pieces across five distinct series, is the first endeavor to transform his sketches and prototypes into tangible furniture. This project not only revives his unrealized ideas but also integrates them into today's design landscape.

The Prostoria design team meticulously researched Richter's geometric and systemic design principles to evolve his original concepts into functional furniture. This process involved careful refinement of proportions, ergonomic enhancements, and contemporary construction methods, all while preserving the core integrity of Richter's artistic vision. An excellent illustration of this approach is the VR61 chair, initially conceived for the Italia 1961 exhibition. Prostoria's updated version maintains its sculptural elegance while offering enhanced comfort and structural solutions, ensuring its relevance in contemporary settings. This research-driven approach is facilitated by Prostoria's integrated R&D, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities at its Croatian factory, fostering a continuous cycle of development and innovation. Through this collection, Prostoria serves as a cultural ambassador, ensuring Richter's enduring legacy continues to inspire and evolve globally.

This endeavor beautifully demonstrates how historical artistic visions can be revitalized and integrated into modern contexts, enriching our lives with timeless design. It underscores the importance of honoring and reinterpreting the legacies of design pioneers, ensuring their ideas continue to inspire future generations and contribute to a more beautiful and functional world.

Morocco's Debut at Venice Art Biennale 2026 with 'Asǝṭṭa': A Woven Landscape of Craft and Culture

Morocco is making its debut at the Venice Art Biennale 2026 with the 'Asǝṭṭa' pavilion, a monumental installation by artist Amina Agueznay. Curated by Meriem Berrada, the project explores the profound role of traditional craftsmanship as a form of knowledge production and cultural transmission. Through a "porous, liminal space" inspired by the Moroccan concept of 'âatba' (threshold), the exhibition foregrounds the collaborative efforts of 166 Moroccan artisans, celebrating their often-overlooked practices and the rich narratives embedded within their craft. 'Asǝṭṭa' offers an immersive experience that redefines heritage not just as something to be preserved, but as a dynamic source of innovation and collective storytelling, resonating with the Biennale's theme, 'In Minor Keys'.
