Swedish Prince Designs Stratum Suites at Stockholm's Clarion Hotel Sign

In a remarkable collaboration, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, alongside his design partner Oscar Kylberg, has recently unveiled three meticulously crafted suites within Stockholm's largest hotel, the Clarion Hotel Sign. These "Stratum Suites" stand as a testament to their innovative approach, where the hotel's angular architecture serves as the foundational inspiration for an entirely new collection of furnishings. Their design philosophy emphasizes reflective surfaces and geometric precision, echoing the sharp lines of the building itself.

The creative duo, co-founders of Bernadotte & Kylberg, skillfully transformed the challenges posed by the rooms' acute angles into a distinct design language. This artistic endeavor resulted in a bespoke collection of five furniture pieces—including a desk, chair, coffee table, armchair, and sofa—each showcasing polished chrome accents and diagonal lines. Furthermore, a commitment to Swedish heritage is evident, as the designers exclusively utilized materials and products manufactured within the country, highlighting Sweden's renowned manufacturing prowess, particularly in steel production. This choice led to the innovative use of steel panels on walls, which, contrary to expectations, imbues the spaces with a warm, inviting glow through its unique light reflection properties.

Each of the Stratum Suites is a vibrant expression of color and texture, with palettes drawn from the breathtaking rooftop views of Stockholm. Suite 8 exudes warmth with its chocolate brown, orange, and red tones, while Suite 9 offers a monochromatic scheme punctuated by soft pinks and greens. Suite 10 strikes a balance with gentle blue-grey hues and cheerful yellow accents. Completing the immersive experience, geometric-patterned carpets mimic the classic herringbone of Stockholm's older apartments, and bathrooms are adorned with ceramic tiles that artfully replicate the feel of woven textiles, creating an ambiance that is quintessentially Stockholmian. These suites, conceived as flexible spaces for both leisure and business, opened in December 2025, offering guests a unique blend of elegance and functionality.

The dedication to thoughtful design and the celebration of local craftsmanship exemplified by the Stratum Suites offer a powerful message about integrating heritage with modernity. This project not only elevates the guest experience but also shines a light on the potential for creativity to transform limitations into advantages, fostering spaces that are both beautiful and purposeful. It reminds us that embracing our roots and innovating with integrity can lead to truly inspiring outcomes, enriching our environments and our lives.
