Public Art Company's Eclectic LA Studio: A Fusion of Art and Design

In the bustling heart of Los Angeles, Public Art Company has unveiled its newly reimagined studio, a testament to innovative design and artistic expression. This unique workspace, designed for the company's own team, embodies a vivid fusion of functionality and aesthetic appeal, setting a new standard for creative environments. The studio, located on Hyperion Avenue, serves as a dynamic hub for conceptualizing and curating large-scale art installations across various public and private spaces.

Public Art Company's Studio: A Hub of Creativity and Adaptability

Founded in 2020 by Raffi Lehrer, Public Art Company has meticulously renovated its Los Angeles studio, infusing it with a distinctive character. Lehrer and his team embarked on a journey to craft a space that is both visually stimulating and highly adaptable. The transformation involved replacing traditional drop-ceiling panels with translucent polycarbonate sheets, offering glimpses of the structural elements above, while cork tiles were laid down to ensure optimal acoustics and comfort underfoot. A notable addition is a raised platform at the rear, enhancing the spatial dynamics. Central to the studio's innovative design is a versatile curtain system, conceptualized by Carlos Medellin. These vibrant, translucent drapes, available in shades of white, blue, grey, and orange, are mounted on ceiling tracks that gracefully traverse the room, enabling effortless reconfiguration for diverse needs, from intimate meetings to lively social gatherings or open studio sessions.

The studio is a veritable showcase of contemporary design and art. It houses an array of collectible furniture and artworks that contribute to its bold and eclectic atmosphere. Raffi Lehrer himself designed a unique desk and a striking green candelabra, adding personal touches to the space. The central area features a robust blue table and chair set by Matt Nichols, fostering an ideal setting for impromptu discussions and collaborations. On the raised platform, visitors can admire Katie Stout's playful humanoid sofa, 'Pepita the Couch,' alongside a delicate pink lamp, complemented by a 'NeuroWeave' carpet from Güvenç Özel. Near a window, two elegant green chairs by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels for Fritz Hansen are accentuated by textual graphics from Ben Klevay, whose colorful typographic signage also adorns another wall, alongside captivating sculptures by Misha Kahn. The artistic tapestry of the studio is further enriched by works from Julieta Gil, Kumkum Fernando, and Philip Mueller, each piece contributing to the studio's vibrant and inspiring ambiance.

This innovative studio design by Public Art Company serves as a compelling example of how a workspace can transcend traditional boundaries, becoming a living canvas that inspires creativity and collaboration. The thoughtful integration of art, adaptable design elements, and a personalized touch creates an environment that is not just functional but also a true reflection of the company's artistic vision and dynamic spirit. It underscores the potential for design to foster a vibrant culture of innovation and expression within a professional setting.
