Montana Acquires Sustainable Danish Design Brand Takt
Danish design house Montana has officially acquired fellow Danish furniture company Takt. Takt is widely recognized for its robust wooden furniture and innovative methods in sustainable design. This acquisition merges Takt's eco-conscious philosophy with Montana's established presence in the design market.
Takt, founded in 2019 by Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, a former executive at Lego and Bang & Olufsen, specializes in contemporary Scandinavian furniture. Their products are crafted from FSC-certified wood, emphasizing low carbon footprint, flat-pack convenience, and design for disassembly. These principles align with a broader movement towards environmentally responsible manufacturing within the furniture industry.
Expanding Sustainable Reach Through Strategic Integration
Under the new ownership, Takt's current product range and upcoming releases, including notable pieces like the Cross chair by Pearson Lloyd and Anderssen & Voll’s Spoke sofa, will be marketed under the new label, "Takt by Montana." This integration is expected to broaden the accessibility of Takt's designs to a wider international audience, leveraging Montana’s established distribution channels and market reach. The synergy between Montana’s vibrant modular furniture and Takt’s understated, sustainable offerings promises a diversified portfolio that caters to evolving consumer demands for environmentally friendly products.
Joakim Lassen, CEO of Montana, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, highlighting Takt's valuable expertise in materials and environmental stewardship. He anticipates that Takt’s pioneering work in sustainability will significantly contribute to Montana’s existing framework, fostering mutual learning and advancements in sustainable practices across both brands. This strategic collaboration is poised to set new industry standards for environmental responsibility, demonstrating a commitment to innovative, eco-friendly design solutions.
Pioneering Sustainability in Furniture Design
Takt has distinguished itself with an ambitious commitment to sustainability, focusing primarily on reducing emissions through product design rather than solely operational adjustments. The company aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030, a goal supported by a comprehensive approach to environmental impact assessment. Takt rigorously evaluates the carbon footprint of its products throughout their entire lifecycle, utilizing the EU's Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) single score. This commitment has positioned Takt as a leader in sustainable furniture, being the only design brand to consistently feature all its products with the EU Ecolabel, underscoring its dedication to transparent and verifiable environmental performance.
Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, a scientist by training, emphasized the importance of measurable environmental impact, a philosophy deeply embedded in Takt’s operations. His insights and experience in sustainability will now benefit Montana Furniture's board, influencing broader corporate strategies. The integration of Takt employees into Montana’s organization ensures that the specialized knowledge and innovative spirit of Takt will continue to thrive and contribute to the collective mission. This merger represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future in the furniture industry, combining design innovation with a strong environmental ethos.
