Melina Romano Transforms CasaCor Showcase into Artful Residential Experience

Studio Melina Romano has unveiled an innovative residential exhibition at CasaCor 2024 in São Paulo, redefining the traditional home showcase as an immersive art experience. This 200-square-meter space seamlessly integrates large-scale Portinari tiles with unique works from acclaimed Brazilian artists and designers, transforming the Conjunto Nacional shopping mall into a dynamic gallery that invites contemplation and appreciation of local creativity.

The Fusion of Residential Design and Art Gallery Aesthetics

Studio Melina Romano's creation for CasaCor 2024, titled Caminhos – Portinari, redefines the concept of a residential showcase by blending it with the contemplative atmosphere of an art gallery. Spanning 200 square meters within São Paulo's bustling Conjunto Nacional, the exhibition uses extensive Portinari porcelain tiles to craft an enveloping environment. The design guides visitors through a carefully curated sequence of spaces, emphasizing a journey of discovery and appreciation for art rather than merely presenting a decorated home. This approach elevates the typical decor display into a profound cultural experience, showcasing how architectural elements can mediate between brands, art, and personal spatial engagement.

The project begins with an entrance portal that intentionally slows the visitor's pace, transitioning them from the exterior world into an immersive interior landscape. Each neutrally adorned room serves as a backdrop for the distinct contributions of local artists. For instance, the living area features a triptych by Anthony Mazza, whose color palette inspired the selection of furniture like the Block sofa by Estúdio Bola and the Lela armchair by Estúdio Latino. The winter garden, characterized by gravel flooring and a gridded ceiling, hosts Aline Matsumoto's captivating hanging branch sculpture. Handcrafted objects by Isadora Mourão enrich the kitchen, while the bedroom displays the sculptural works of Lucas Simões. Translucent woven curtains soften the incoming light, enhancing the tranquil, gallery-like ambiance throughout the exhibition.

Curated Pathways and Artistic Discoveries

The Caminhos – Portinari exhibition is meticulously designed to provide a guided pathway, transforming the visitor's experience from a passive observation of interior design into an active engagement with art. By framing the space as a gallery rather than a conventional residential setting, Studio Melina Romano encourages a deeper appreciation for each artistic piece and its integration within the overall environment. This innovative approach challenges the traditional boundaries of design showcases, fostering a cultural circuit where architecture plays a pivotal role in connecting artistic expression with spatial perception.

The core concept behind the exhibition is to create an intentional journey, starting with a corridor designed to slow movement and refocus perception. This deliberate pacing allows visitors to fully absorb the artistic details within each room. Anthony Mazza's paintings in the living area set a tonal precedent for the surrounding furnishings, illustrating a seamless blend of art and interior elements. Aline Matsumoto's branch sculpture in the winter garden introduces a dynamic, organic element, contrasting with the structured environment. Isadora Mourão's utilitarian objects in the kitchen demonstrate how everyday items can be elevated to art forms, while Lucas Simões's sculptures in the bedroom add a contemplative dimension. This thoughtful integration of various artistic disciplines ensures that every turn in the exhibition reveals a new discovery, making the entire showcase a testament to the power of curated design and local artistry.

Spazio Leone Gallery Unveils Expanded Dalston Showroom

Spazio Leone, a collectible design gallery, has inaugurated a new, more expansive showroom in East London's Dalston. The space, previously a Victorian textile factory, retains its industrial charm with minimal interventions to highlight the exhibited design pieces. Founder Gennaro Leone emphasized preserving the original atmosphere, focusing on subtle enhancements like updated lighting and fresh paint, rather than a complete overhaul. This move provides a larger canvas for their unique collection, open to the public on Saturdays and by appointment during the week.
