Fisher & Paykel Unveils Nature-Inspired Appliance Collection at Salone del Mobile

Fisher & Paykel, an appliance manufacturer, presented its latest collection at this year's Salone del Mobile, creating an immersive experience that highlighted its New Zealand origins. The exhibit, titled "Nature – Ritual," was a central feature at the Eurocucina section of Salone del Mobile, where it showcased the brand's State of the Art Collection, which includes sophisticated ovens, refrigerators, and fabric care systems. The company's objective was to immerse attendees in the essence of New Zealand's natural environment, underscoring the profound influence of local materials on its product aesthetics.

The display thoughtfully integrated materials native to New Zealand, such as tōtara wood and volcanic basalt rock, found in abundance near the company's Auckland base. These elements were paired with dynamic video projections of lush forests, creating a tranquil and engaging atmosphere. The kitchen appliances from the State of the Art Collection were thoughtfully framed with tōtara wood, meticulously crafted with randomized patterns to evoke a sense of handcrafted artistry. The exhibit also explored the significance of daily rituals and how these practices inform Fisher & Paykel's approach to design, encouraging interaction and personal connection with the products. Renowned New Zealand ceramicist Aaron Scythe contributed unique pieces, finished with Oribe glaze, which were strategically placed throughout the exhibit to enhance the domestic ambiance and illustrate the seamless integration of appliances into a home setting.

The installation, a culmination of eight years of planning, represents Fisher & Paykel's strategic move to engage with the global design community and reaffirm its commitment to thoughtful, user-centric design. This showcase was not merely about displaying products; it was an invitation for visitors to understand the brand's philosophy, where appliances are seen as integral components of everyday life, facilitating meaningful interactions and fostering a deeper connection with nature and ritual. The company aims to provide designers with exceptional tools and products, enabling them to create remarkable living spaces for their clients, thereby extending its influence within the broader design landscape.
