Decospan Redefines Wood Surfacing with Shinnoki Terra Sapele Panels
In a significant development for the design and construction industry, Decospan, a renowned Belgian brand, has unveiled its latest offering: Shinnoki Terra Sapele wood veneer surface panels. These panels, featuring a distinctive deep mahogany hue and an organic, consistent grain pattern, move beyond the limitations of conventional book-matching by eliminating repetitive designs. The pre-finished nature, achieved through six layers of varnish, provides a resilient, matte surface that is both scratch-resistant and minimizes glare. Ann-Marie Debaveye, product manager at Decospan, highlighted that these panels enable architects to incorporate real wood into large-scale projects with predictable results, overcoming the inconsistencies often associated with raw veneers. The versatility of Terra Sapele has already been demonstrated in diverse settings, from retail environments to elegant residential spaces, including the prominent Kalvekeetdijk residence by RR Interieur. In this particular project, designers utilized complementary edge banding and laminates to achieve seamless transitions across walls, doors, and custom cabinetry, showcasing the product’s adaptability and sophisticated appeal. The panels are available in dimensions of 2790 by 1240 by 19 millimeters, with laminates measuring 3050 by 1220 by 1 millimeter, offering 18 distinct looks.
The introduction of Shinnoki Terra Sapele panels by Decospan represents a forward-thinking approach to wood surfacing. This product not only elevates the aesthetic quality of interior spaces but also addresses critical concerns regarding durability and maintenance. For designers and architects, this means greater freedom to specify natural wood in high-traffic or demanding environments, confident in its long-term performance and visual integrity. It encourages a re-evaluation of how natural materials can be integrated into contemporary design, pushing the boundaries of both form and function.
